I’m running into a number of problems with piping:
1. When piping rows to a single select radio question (repeated or table), requiring the question — both at the question and advanced logic level — doesn’t work. The red asterisk shows up but you can comfortably not answer any questions.
2. When piping options to single select dropdown, the ‘– Please Select’ option is not selected initially. Rather, the last of the piped options is selected by default. At least the require option works here.

Hi dkappe,
1) Yes you cannot require rows in a piped table question, because the question doesn’t have any rows until a survey taker selects options. It’s kind of a catch 22.
2) Ahh, we’ll take a look at this.
Thanks,
Chad

Chad,
thanks for the response. It seems to me that #1 is a fairly common use case, as I’ve had to do it in several custom surveys I’ve developed.
I could probably make it work if I was able to inject some custom JavaScript into the survey page, but that seems hacky.
When you say “it can’t be done,” do you mean it would be a whole lot of work given how you’ve designed and implemented the validation logic (for example, tied to specific questions at survey design time)?
Thanks,
Dietrich

Hi Dietrich,
This is actually not something that’s been requested before. Most people tend to get by with just the red asterisk on the question. It’s a valid concern however, and we’ll put our heads together and see what we can come up with.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention,
Chad
