Hi,
Currently the aliasing does not work so well as if the email is sent to a mail client like Outlook the from address appears as such From: invitations@sgizmo.com; on behalf of;”mail senders name” where it would be best if the email appeared as though it was sent from the sender.
From the discussions I have had it seems that this is because of settings in mail clients to display this data. Yet, Ihave worked with other survey email tools that also have aliasing and they do not display the “on behalf of” text. It would seem then that it is indeed possible to acomplish this and should be a feature made available in at least a Enterprise or Pro account.

Hi Dulouz,
The specific reason you’re seeing this is we issue a special type of header called “Sender:”
The reason behind it is arcane, but important. When email from your domain is sent by a mail server that is not in your domain (i.e. our mail server), many receiving mail systems treat that as a sign that the message is spam. Adding the sender header tells the recipient mail server who is really sending the message physically, and thus allows it to do a check for an SPF record, which is a form of authentication. More info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework
The net result is that it increases the likelihood that the message will not be treated as spam and thus filtered into the spam folder.
You can get around this by using your own SMTP server. Contact support for more details on that option. You can also create an SPF record for your mail server that includes surveygizmo.com as an authorized sender.

Thanks Derek,
I have talked to support about this and it seems there is nothing more that can be done, I have created a SPF record on my mail server that includes surveygizmo.com as an authorized sender but I do not think this solves my “on behalf of” issue it just makes it more likely for your email to be sent successfully.
I have also discussed the SMTP option with Chad who told me this is a red herring and is also not a solution.
The only solution suggested was to use a 3rd party email supplier like ExactTarget, one would think though if ExactTarget can do it, the surveygizmo email tool should be able to.

We’ll look into more options, but note that your SPF record should include sgizmo.com, not surveygizmo.com

I still think this is a good idea, if you could make the mailing tool cleaner SurveyGizmo would be kick ass, currenlty it is just pretty good.

Hi,
I raised this topic a while ago (yes I have changed names) and just wanted to check to see if there have been any developments in this area since then.
The key thing I am after is that currently when I send an invitation the email header has in the from address invitations@sgizmo.com; on behalf of; 'my name' [my@address.com]
I would like it if the “invitations@sgizmo.com; on behalf of;” was removed and it only had our address.
I note that when sending a email auto-responder you can use your own smtp server but not when sending invitations. Although I don't really want to use my server for sending bulk emails.
Thanks,

Hi.
Some recipients will see invitations@sgizmo.com and some recipients will see the 'from' person you set up in the Invitation. It depends on the email settings on the recipient's computer/email setup. Those settings we have no control over.
Some other emailing services such as ExactTarget may be able to serve your needs better.
