Currently with the Export to Excel:

Fields left blank whom have a Field Type “Table” do not get exported to the Excel file. This is very problematic when importing into Access or other databases.

When I start a survey the export will exclude fields till at least one person fills in the data for the field.

Problematic is also the dual line header for Table Fields. Most import programs only have the ability to import the field names from the first line of the import.

To fix both these problems it would be nice to have two check boxes on the export to allow all Empty table fields and Single Header row.

Perhaps the Ability to check mark a box to use the “Optional Reference Name:” as a field name. You would have to expand the Table type to allow a Reference Name for each field in the group though.
So you would end up with a composite filed name:
HOMEPHONE + AREACODE = ResultantFieldname
HOMEPHONE + 3DigitExchange = ResultantFieldname
HOMEPHONE + 4DigitExchange = ResultantFieldname
WORKPHONE + AREACODE = ResultantFieldname
WORKPHONE + 3DigitExchange = ResultantFieldname
WORKPHONE + 4DigitExchange = ResultantFieldname

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes, we’ve had quite a few requests to show unanswered questions and options.

Our system was built to conserve on space. In particular columns in an Excel spreadsheet (you are limited to 255 columns in Excel). We have since found a work around to that limit, but the system is still built with conservation in mind.

Since this touches on the basis of our reporting and response collection system it won’t be an easy change. That being said we do plan on upgrading the system before the end of the year, when we upgrade reporting.

I like your suggestion for combined column headers. I’ll pass this suggestion along to our developers. It will probably be added to the reporting upgrade that’s coming up.

Hope this helps,
Chad
