“Abandons” are actually people that leave without filling out your first page. They looked at the survey, but did not start to participate.
“Partials” are the folks that at least started your survey, even if they didn’t finish it. My suggestion to see what the “sticking” point is for partials is to export your partial records to excel and look for the last group of questions answered.
If your “abandon rate” still seems really high. Keep in mind that it will always be higher if you embed your survey on your webiste (rather than inviting people by email, or giving them a link).
This doesn’t mean less people take embeded surveys. It is actually just reflecting the fact ‘casual’ traffic you received to that webpage. Email invites and clickable links have the effect of pre-qualifying non-embeded surveys a bit, keeping the trackable abandon rate lower.
