I have a survey with minimal piping or page jumping.  Page 1 has a question that diverts the user to the next page or to page 12 – we will call the users Alpha (next page) and Beta (page 12).

It was decided that we wanted an interim page before page 12 for Beta.  So we made a copy of page 4 (logically now page 5) and had the Beta user get diverted there for some questions and THEN onto page 12.

Obviously every page after page 4 has to iterate up by 1 to take the new page into acount.

But when the Beta user navigates to page 5, they jump from 2% progress to 98% progress.  When they proceed to page 12 (now 13) the Progress Bar changes to 27%.

It looks like the Progress bar is being tracked based on the AGE of the pages rather than their physical location and Question Number order contained therein.

Is there any way to fix this?   It looks like the only solution (as we WANT to use Progress Bar) is to re-create the survey from scratch with the new order in place.  Please help!

Hey, George!

The progress bar actually doesn't work on the page age, it is dynamic – it tries to look forward in the survey to see whats coming up next.

I'd like to take a look at your survey to see exactly whats happening. What is the name of survey?

Hey, George!

Thanks for the info! I've been checking your survey but I haven't yet been able to get the progress bar to show up wrong like you've described. Its possible that whatever the problem is, its specific to your question and/or page flow.

I hate to be a bother, but I really need to see the problem myself. Can you give me the exact answer and page combinations you've used to get the progress bar to malfunction? Thanks!

The process is as follows:

Page 1, Question3 – Choose selection 3 (  Choose Next Page.

Progress jumps to 98%

Answer the one required question on this page (any choice will do) and click Next Page.

Progress Bar now at 27%.

Thanks!

Hi, George.

We looked at your survey. When you have logic in your survey like you do (page jumping, show/hide, show/when, etc.), we recommend you disable the progress bar (Edit Survey => Look & Feel) as the progress bar does not have a lot of intelligence in the programming to detect all of those nuances and so it will not accurately depict progress through the survey.

I hope this helps,

Cheri

Hi, I have the same issue as George, is there anyway we can fix it? Main reason why we keep the progress bar is to give the respondent an indication on how much have they completed the survey. Appreciate if you could look into it.

The survey title is : HR Service Index : Satisfaction survey with HR Learning & Training Development Services v1.0,

So, if you were to reply me, please reply at the email address I have provided – registered under my name.

Thanks.Smile

I took a look at your survey and can see where the progress bar gets mixed up.  There is no way to “fix” the progress bar as this is just the way it is built in the current version.  For a one page survey, page one would be 50%.  Two page survey, each page would be 33%.  And so on.  Page jumping confuses this system.

If you want to give survey takers an indication of where they are in the survey, you could add a descriptive text to the bottom of each page that lets the survey taker know that they are on “page X out of Y”.  This would be static and would not get confused with the jumping.  Survey takers may skip pages, but progress would always go up.

Hope this helps!
