Hi. For background, I’m working on a fairly simple survey that I’m using to learn how to use SurveyGizmo - but also want the real answers.

I published the survey a couple of weeks ago, with cookie protection on, and IP protection off. Leaving IP protection off was a good idea because respondents might have shared IPs.

Now its time to report and analyze. The exported data confirms that there were shared IPs. When I do online reports with cookie de-duping, I see a few less responses. But I don’t get this field in the exported data, so I don’t really know what is going on.

Also, some of the partials look like they might be duplicates, but it is hard to tell. From the time stamps and the responses, some partials appear to be from different respondents. But others look like they are the same respondent. But without the cookie data I can’t really tell. The safest way seems to be to just ignore partials completely, but that’s a shame because the confidence level is reduced.

Hi 5circles,
The field in the Export to Text that represents the cookie is the RespondantKey. Keep in mind that cookie protection is not infallible. Cookies can be deleted from a computer or someone can use a different browser to take the survey again.

But they will provide protection against accidental re-submission or low level ballot filling techniques.

Hope this helps,
Chad

Thanks Chad! I figured out that the respondent key was likely to be the cookie, but the extra clarification is helpful. It turned out that all the potential duplicates were removed by filtering out partials, so I think the data is clean if I stick to that level of rigor.
