I noticed that although I can adjust the character width of an essay question, the display width doesn’t match and as a result when people are filling out the form they have to scroll to see the text they are entering. Is there a way to adjust the display width?

Hi Lisa,
If you Advanced Edit the Essay question under Essay Options you can change the width of the question.
I would recommend setting it to something really high like 80 characters just so you can see that it’s working.
Although, I’m not sure what you mean by “display width”, could you give us an example?

The high number worked, thanks. I just wanted to make sure that the horizontal scroll bar went away.

Actually I posted too soon. The scroll bar is still appearing in preview mode. Is there a way to make the entry field width match the max character width so that the horizontal scroll bar goes away? That is what I meant by “display width.”

Hi Lisa,
Ahh I see. I’m not sure which survey this is, but I think the problem is the survey itself isn’t wide enough to contain the essay box so it’s showing the scroll bar.
Depending on the Theme you’re using you can change this. Just go to the Look & Feel page and under Other Theme Options change the Survey Width. Also keep in mind the width of the essay box cannot be exactly the width of the survey since there’s some extra elements inside the survey like margin and padding. I would suggest staying around 50-100px smaller than the survey width.
Hope this helps,
Chad
