I have a question where the participant enters the date they took a class. I need everyone to enter it in the same format, mm/dd/yyyy. I have put in the calendar feature so they can click on the date and it will populate. I have also used the pattern-based input mask to fill in the answer as mm/dd/yyyy but am still getting different formats. Is there anyway to prevent a survey from being submitted unless that question is answered in the correct date format?

You can use the VALIDATION feature and include a regular expression to make sure that the post is in the proper format. Edit the question and scroll-down to validation. From the “Commonly used patterns” box, choose “Date in mm/dd/yyyy format”. You can then add an optional message to let them know that they entered the date in the wrong format.
This will make sure the textbox response is in the correct format before continuing.

If I do that will they still be able to submit with the wrong date format? I was under the impression that this feature gave a warning that it was not in the correct format but that it could still be submitted.

Hi Ashley,
No, if you have validation on a question and a survey taker does not pass the validation they will not be able to continue with the survey.
A warning does flash up before the survey taker tries to submit, but there should also be backend validation that stops the submit.
Hope this helps,
Chad

I’ve done this but I’m still getting answers in different formats. I even took the survey and put the date in the wrong format and was still able to submit it…

I’ve got the same behaviour, the validation only checking on the initial input rather than preventing the submission.
So I’ll also test on and let you know.
Cheers,
Chris
