Hello…

I have following problems:

After i have designed my survey questions i used the “will be hidden unless…” as well as the “required when” option to specify different ways through my survey.

On the first look it works fine but after some testing i found some points which do not work sufficent for me.

The first problem i had was with “required when” if i tried to nest the questions. E.g. I had a question B and C which is are only visible (shown by trigger from other question) and required on a specific answer on Question A (B is visible if A has the first answer, C is visible if A has the second answer).
It works that far. But when i did the same with B and C two problems occured:

1. The bigger problem, was that questions “with required when” on B and C answers where always required (configured exactly the same then question B and C where it worked).

2. The second problem: I clicked through the survey by choosing the answer in question A which showed question B and an answer in question B showing further questions. Then i reconsidered my choice in question A and took another answer. Well question B was corretly hidden but the following question shown by question B where not. So i had a mixture of questions belonging to two different pathes through the survey on the screen.

I tried to solve both problems for a couple of hours but could not find a reason for this problem. So i thought using different pages for the different pathes could be an option (with the page jump logic in other plans). For my survey flattening the nesting and adding more options two question A is sufficient. But i thought maybe my problem could by a bug in survey gizmo.

The problem i could not find a solution till now also concerns the hidden questions but in relation with the back and next button.

When i come a second time to a page with the back button (or also next button if i already been on this page) the page shows all questions, also the hidden ones. The question triggering the visibility of the hidden questions is still nicely selected with the option i choosed the first time i have been on the page but the logic does not recognise it. If I click something in the trigger question (e.g. again click the already selected answer) the logic is fine again (all questions which should be hidden are).

I tried some different ways with hide by default and show when options but i could not get it working. When i use hide by default and the “will be hidden unless..” the questions are not shown no matter what i answer in the trigger questions.

So could you give me a hint? have i overseen something? Could be, im new to Gizmo. Or are there any options in a better Gizmo plan with could offer a solution for this?

greets
Andy

Wow! What a long post! Let me try to answer your questions as best I can:

1. The bigger problem, was that questions “with required when” on B and C answers where always required (configured exactly the same then question B and C where it worked).

Can you email a link to your survey to Support [at] sgizmo.com? I think I understand what is happening, but I want to make sure.

2. The second problem: I clicked through the survey by choosing the answer in question A which showed question B and an answer in question B showing further questions. Then i reconsidered my choice in question A and took another answer. Well question B was corretly hidden but the following question shown by question B where not

You didn’t do anything wrong here. When I originally added dynamic show hide it was intended for simple dependancies. I figured anyone who had more complex dependancies would use page jumping logic. Guess I underestimated the attraction of dynamic show/hide!

You’re actually the second person this week to mention it! The good news is that after the first person I started to work on an update that will allow nesting like this — even between pages. It should be ready in 3-4 days.

BTW: Avoid using the show when rules under advanced logic when your trigger and your target question are on the same page. That feature was designed only to work between pages — which is why when you tried using it the questions always seemed to be hidden.

Thanks for your feedback Andy. We really appreciate it!

Cheers,

Christian

I am having a similar issue.

Question A has two possible responses. One of the options does nothing (no show/hide triggers). The other option unhides Question B. Question B has 2 options. One option does nothing (no show/hide triggers). The other option unhides Question C. If you select the second option on Questions A and B you will have made everything fully visible. But if you reconsider your answer to Question A then Question B becomes hidden but Question C remains visible. This creates a problem because Question C was meant to be a continuation of Question B which is no longer visible.

Do I have something set incorrectly?

Thank You!

Hi Gus,
Unfortunately our Show/Hide feature was built for simple logic, we’re trying to make the feature more robust for nesting features like that.

You can use Show/When piping logic feature, in conjunction with our Show/Hide feature to accomplish your task. Where A and B are on the same page and C is shown on the proceeding page.

Hope this helps!
