I want to know how the survey counts “In Progress”, “Completed” and “Abandoned” surveys.

What happened was I accidentally clicked the URL to the survey. Because I am the survey setter, I cannot answer the survey. So I closed the window. Now there is a “1″ appearing beside “In Progress”. I suspect it is because of what I did. I want to remove this as it will make my response inaccurate. Please help. My survey is already live.

J H,
If you want to delete one of the responses that you accidentally submitted then just simply go to reports–>browse responses–>click on the one you want to get rid of–>when it redirects you will see a green bar that has the option to go to PDF format or Delete. Simply click the delete button.
The difference between “In Progress”, “Completed” and “Abandoned” surveys is this. Completed surveys are surveys that have been fully completed and recorded. Abandoned surveys are when a survey taker clicks in to the link to take your survey but does not fill anything out and leaves. In progress surveys are surveys that are currently being taken. They remain in progress until you reach the twenty minute time out. An in progress survey can also occur when someone has closed their survey browser and it has not finished timing out yet. Partial is someone who has timed out and only partially completed the survey.
Hope this helps!

Hi JH,
After 20 minutes the “in progress” will move over to abandoned.
In Progress contains a count of who is currently taking the survey.
Completed is the number of people who submitted the survey from beginning to end.
and Abandoned are folks who clicked on the link but did not fill in even a single page.
Cheers,
-Christian

Did something change recently with this metric? Our last surveys never had that “in progress” number so high, then today that number was unusually high. Your explanation about the browser being closed before the timeout makes sense - it just seems slightly different from past experiences.

Hi Hannah,
We just recently upgraded the response recording system to handle many more incoming responses. As such the values were thrown off a little until the systems synced up.
They should be completed synced by now. Can you check again? If not what’s the name of the survey? Mind if we take a look?
Thanks,
Chad

Be careful - it’s my precious survey - it’s live to a lot of people and I’ll have to hurt you if you break it…kidding (kind of.) :)
But that said - in the name of ever-improving, it’s the:
SearchDataManagement.com Challenges and Priorities Survey

We’ve had “34″ in progress all afternoon….

Hi Hannah,
All fixed. Looks like those were abandons that got stuck as in progress. We’ve un-stuck them and this shouldn’t happen again.
Hope this helps,
Chad
