I would like to ask a question in the survey that I am designing that asks the respondent to first choose one of six options, then respond to a ranking question on the value of the chosen option. Can this be done and how? I have an upgraded surveygizmo account.

So to clarify using surveygizmo lingo. I want a dropdown with 6 choices to be the first column in a table/matrix of radio buttons with value rankings referring to the choice made in the dropdown menu.

Hi Tom,
Well there are a couple ways you can do this. Depending on what you want you can choose either method.

The first method leans toward the visual look of the survey, but makes reporting a little more difficult. It seems like what you want is this method. You can do this with a Custom Matrix question type (at the bottom of the question type list). You would have the first column of the matrix be a drop down menu, and the second column a radio button question with your range.

The second method will make reporting a lot easier, but may not be the look you want. In order to do this you will have to have the two questions on seperate pages. First have the drop down question, then on the second page create the radio button ranking question and use the Merge Code from the drop down question to identify what they selected.

The Custom Matrix method will not allow you to have the drop down menu as the FIRST column (the row headers). If you want to do this then it will require some HTML programming, but will make reporting a nightmare.

At the Enterprise level we have a feature called Datasets that will give you what you want and will also make reporting a lot easier.

Hope this helps,
Chad
