We want to test 9 concepts but not all 9 at the same time. We want to randomly select 4 plus 1 baseline.

Then for those 5 concepts we want to ask 4 questions per concept with the concept question sets randomly shown. So it may look like:

Concept4 - Q1-Q4
Concept2 - Q1-Q4
Concept1 - Q1-Q4 (always chosen)
Concept7 - Q1-Q4
Concept6 - Q1-Q4

Then a follow-up question comparing the 5 concepts.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Thank you!

Hi Ozzy,
Yup you can do this. You can use the Bulk Question Controls, this is a Pro and higher level feature.

These controls will allow you to show x number of random questions that are on the page.

The problem is if you just make 20 questions (five sections of four questions each) and you set x you’ll only get four questions on the page. The way around this is to use a custom group. You can then create five custom groups and fill each with four questions. Then when you randomize the page groups will be treated as such.

So after you create your groups and fill them with questions, go to the top of that page and click Page Options & Logic. This will drop down a bunch of page options. Go to Bulk Question Controls and set “Show x-number random questions from this page:” to 4.

I would suggest putting your baseline question on a seperate page, this will keep it out of the randomization.

Hope this helps,
Chad

Thanks but is there a way to include the baseline in the randomization? So it’d be a select x-number (in this case 4) from the 8 blocks plus the baseline - all randomized.

Hi Ozzy,
If you add the baseline into the page it will be randomized as well.

There is an option to exclude a question on the page from being randomized. We have added that option for you, but it is untested for Group questions, and could give you mixed results.

The sure option is still to include your baseline on a seperate page.

Hope this helps,
Chad
