Hi there,
Having an issue with the Show/Hide options under Advanced Logic.

Based on answer to an earlier question (on a different survey page), I want to hide or show a series of subsequent questions.

For example:
Q1. How many pairs of glasses do you own?
a. 0
b. 1
c. 2
d. 3+

Q14. How often do you wear your pair of glasses?
(if they answered “0″ in Q1, I want to hide this question but show for all other Q1 responses)

I tried the “Show When” logic, selected Q1 and told it to show when equal to RegEx logic /Option 2 | Option 3, etc. but the question is being hidden regardless of the response to Q1.

Am I missing something? Would it be better to use a “Hide When” control?

This is a bit urgent - trying to get this survey out to client in the next few hours. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance :)

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
Are these questions on the same page or different pages?

If they’re on the same page you should use Show/Hide logic found next to the question options. This is a two step process first click on the little green arrows icons and select the questions you want to show. Then Advanced Edit each question you selected and check off “This question will “This question will be hidden unless toggled by a Show/Hide Trigger Question on this survey page.”

Hope this helps,
Chad

In her opening paragraph she noted the questions are on different pages. I’m having the same issue. I am not having problems with the show/hide when questions are on the same page, but I cannot figure out how to make a separate page (with only one question) show/hide depending on an answer given in a check box on an earlier page.

I finally figured out what I needed to do to get this to work in my survey.
In the advanced logic set up area (I used page logic b/c I just had the one question on the page), I had to make my answer (the one that triggered the page to show or hide) equal to the reporting value, not equal to the answer that was displayed in the survey for the user.
I hope I explained this well enough and hope this helps someone else out.

That’s correct Jennifer, the Show When logic uses the reporting values rather than the titles, and while these are the same by default, they of course can be changed leading to some confusion. I’m glad you were able to get this sorted out!

I’ve been able to show/hide questions based on same page responses, and previous page responses. My question is this, when it comes time to report results, if the question is hidden how do you base the reporting percentages on the total population? In this scenario, I suspect that if 10 people respond, 8 of the ten said they do not wear glasses, 2 do, and of those two 1 says they own one pair, and the other says they own two pairs, when it comes time to report the results, it will indicate that 50% own 1 pair, and 50% own two pairs, instead of 80% owning no pairs, 10% owning 1 pair, and 10% two pairs. How do you fix this?

Hi edzuik,
It sounds like you want questions to report by the population rather than by responses to the question.

The best way to do this is by making the question a required radio button question with options:
No pairs
One pair
Two pairs
etc.
Ten pairs or more

If you set up the question this way you can get the results you want.

Hope this helps,
Chad
