When I use the as-needed feature for a question, the “date” and “currency” and whatever else I am using to format my responses ceases to work. Is there a work around for this?

Deltina,
It's a current limitation of the group question and the way it is built in the system compared to those checks. You will need to change the way you ask the question, possibly using a question that says, “How many X do you need?” Then, on the next page, set PAGE OPTIONS & LOGIC > Page Piping off of that question and check the VALUES checkbox. Now, this page (put whatever questions you need on it) will be repeated the number of times that they specified, allowing you to break out the questions individually.

No, they need to be able to add as many as they need as they need them. Not the end of all things if I don't have the formatting; but it would be nice if it could be a high priority to fix…

It's definitely been noted for the developers in surveygizmo version 2. Because it is redesigned from the ground up with 2+ years of question types already established, it most definitely will be less prone to these types of restrictions. I appreciate you letting us know.
