wondering if it is possible to add a formatting option which would give the option to select number of columns to show lengthier answer lists. for example, split 14 answer options into 2 columns, 15 answers into 3 columns, etc. This would obviously work best when shorter, one answers are used but would also wrap text when appropriate for short phrases.

Unfortunately this isn’t possible at this time. You can, however, do some basic formatting via CSS that will give you a little more control over the columns.
