Hi,

I have noticed that most of my respondents are either abandoning the survey, or only partially completing it.

I have a fairly simple survey, and I have even changed the question strategy - meaning, I have provided no “required” questions, and have also explicitly stated the privacy policy & what the personal information will be used for (I did these in case folks were abandoning due to fear of the collection of their personal data).

Please check out my survey & let me know what advice/comments/critiques you think will make it a better survey: http://pro20.sgizmo.com/survey.php?SURVEY=2DJQLKHRGYAQNYLKO71AUD2F0ZH4J6-11136-4473652&pswsgt=1197651892

The 1st link is the page that the user is taken to when they click on the “take survey” link from my website. To see that link, go to: http://www.bikersfreedom.com

Another thought I had was that, what if folks have their pop-up blockers turned on - would this cause them to not be able to get to my survey? If so, how can I make the survey appear in either a new window, or a new tab, or the same window (thus defeating the pop-up blockers).

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,
Interesting survey, I like how you matched the look of your survey to your site.

First off, we are not a survey design company, we just create the tool for you to create your survey. We do have consulting and design services, but that is a service we provide over the monthly application fees.

I can give you some tips though. Overall your survey looks good, you let your respondent know how many questions they have to take and how many pages are in the survey. You also keep the survey short and reading to a minimum and even provide a short disclaimer.

The only thing you might change is the astethics. For example: Wanna $ave THOUSANDS seems very cheezy and would look un-inviting to a respondent. Like a late night knife set commercial.

You also might want to be more specific, when I first get into this survey I’m wondering what FREE Gifts? Is it something I can use? Why should I spend my time on this if I don’t know what I’m working for?

Finally, with any survey on a website you’re bound to get a lot of abandoned and partial surveys. People like to browse and have a short attention span. If you can’t hold their attention in the first 5 seconds you’ve already lost them.

Hope this helps,
Chad

Chad,

Thank you for your suggestions. I agree w/ the “cheesy” feel of some of the titles, and will change that accordingly.

Not sure though, if I want to change the “free gift” portion (allowing folks to see what the free gifts are *before* taking the survey) - the whole point was to give them an incentive to take the survey by offering free gifts if they take the survey. I was hoping most folks would want the free gifts, no matter if they knew what they were beforehand or not.

But, I’ll ask my “test” group (family/friends/co-workers) and get their opinions as to whether or not they think I should divulge what the gifts are ahead of time, and will take their answers into consideration!!

As far as my “type” of survey - I was going for more of a contact information capturing device - I want folks to fill out the basic survey, so that I have a feel as to what products/services they’re interested in - but on page 2, I’d like their phone #, email, etc so that I can then shoot them a line as a followup later on. Sort of like “prodding” them if they showed an interest.

Anyway, I appreciate the feedback - by the way - prior to using Survey Gizmo, I had tried a few other survey sites (Survey Monkey being one), and I’ve got to say - Survey Gizmo is by far the easiest, most robust, most “bang for your buck” product out there!!!

Keep up the good work & thanks a lot!!
Rob
