Prepping data for export (for lack of a better term)

When I attempt to export my data to SPSS, 4 of my 50 questions are marked in red with:  Var Names must be 8 characters or less in length. I don't know whether this means these items will be un-exportable or if I can rename them. Seems to me that SurveyGizmo assigned the names so it's out of my control.

Also, is there any filtering I need to do prior to exporting the data that will make it easier to analyze my pilot test instrument's reliability and validity?   Survy title is Physicians, therapists and sexuality education.

Thanks.

Hello, Melanie!

The red is to let you know of the character length. Older versions of SPSS only support up to 8 characters per Variable Name – hence the error so you know. We do auto generate the variables names – but you can click into that red box and change them before exporting.

You can create filters, it just lets you filter in or filter out responses so you can categorize your responses and data the best way for you. I can't really suggest how best to filter your data because it depends on what is most important, what kind of results you need and what you'll be doing with the data in SPSS. Its up to you :-)

I hope this helps!
