2012 Environmental Benchmarking Survey

Purpose

ACI-NA is once again conducting a benchmarking survey of airport environmental initiatives and practices to assess the continued progress of the industry since our last environmental benchmarking surveys were conducted in 2008 and 2010. The results of the prior surveys were used in ACI-NA’s advocacy efforts to provide information to the public, government agencies, and others about the proactive steps airports are taking to reduce environmental impacts. The 2012 survey results will provide more current information about these proactive environmental measures.

The 2008 data was also used by ACI-NA’s Environmental Affairs Committee to develop industry environmental goals that were adopted by our Board of Directors in 2009. ACI-NA undertook this initiative to help improve the overall environmental performance of the airport industry by identifying ambitious, yet achievable, goals for incorporating various initiatives at our member airports. The 2012 benchmarking survey will allow us to track the industry’s progress toward achieving these environmental goals.

The Committee also developed implementation plans to help airports achieve the environmental goals. As part of these plans, we will also be asking for more specific follow-up information after the survey for those questions pertaining to the environmental goals. For example, for those airports indicating they have an environmental policy, we may later ask that they provide us with a copy of the policy that we can share with other airports as samples on which to base their own environmental policy.

Within each section of the survey, those questions pertaining to our environmental goals are asked first and have been distinguished with italics. Please make every effort to complete these italicized questions. By responding to these questions, you will help us identify where additional assistance is needed to help airports achieve the goals.

Your cooperation in completing the survey will ensure we have the most comprehensive and accurate information about our members.

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU START

To ease data gathering, a PDF was provided with the initial survey notice. Please review the PDF, gather the answers and THEN complete the survey. While this new survey interface allows you to save your progress and return to the survey at a later time, because of the length of the survey we suggest you complete it in one sitting after collecting the answers.

We suggest you designate one person in your organization as the "survey captain." That person should gather all pertinent information and input the data into the web-based survey form. If an update must be made to the information, you can re-access the information through the link but it must be at the same computer terminal using the same internet connection as the initial entry took place.

As is the 2010 survey, we are again only collecting data from FAR Part 139 approved, commercial service airports. If your organization operates more than one of these airports please contact Katherine Preston at kpreston@aci-na.org for additional instructions. If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact Katherine Preston at ACI-NA at kpreston@aci-na.org or (202) 861-8092. Thank you in advance!
