Acceptance into the program:
  • Beaches Habitat for Humanity will not accept participants whose offense involves violence or theft or is considered a sexual offense. These offenses include, but are not limited to: petite theft, robbery, larceny, prostitution, soliciting a prostitute, assault, battery, hate crimes.
  • All requests to complete mandated community service are subject to evaluation by Beaches Habitat for Humanity prior to acceptance into the program.
  • Disclosure of the nature of the offense to Beaches Habitat staff is required to complete service hours with Beaches Habitat. Those offenders who do not disclose their offense prior to beginning their hours may be dismissed from the program, regardless of whether the offense meets our criteria.
Prior to beginning your service you must:
  1. Complete the Community Service Acknowledgment form (this form). The acknowledgment form must be submitted prior to beginning service hours.
  2. Submit a copy of the final judgement of the court or other documentation stating the reason for your required hours. Please contact the Community Outreach Director, Sarah Jared, at (904) 595-5793 to discuss acceptable documents.
  3. Call the Beaches Habitat Office at (904) 595-5793 to speak to our Community Outreach Director, Sarah Jared, about your service requirements.
  4. Be sure that you have read and fully our understand our policies for verifying hours. Failure to comply with our policy may result in our staff being unable to verify your hours!
To complete your service hours, you are responsible for the following:

  Community Service Volunteer Registration:
  1. You must submit an acknowledgement form (this form - submission fields are at the bottom of this page) and contact our Community Outreach Director prior to creating an account in our volunteer calendar. You may be turned away from the construction site if you register without first speaking to our Community Outreach Director.
  2. You are required to register for each date you wish to complete hours. This is done by:
    1. Creating an account with the volunteer program. This can be done over the phone or via the Beaches Habitat website.
    2. Registering for a specific date and time. This can be done through the website or over the phone.
    To register by phone, you must call at least one day prior. Hours to call in are Monday from 7:30am to 12:00pm and Tuesday through Friday from 7:30am to 4pm.
  3. You must complete a Waiver of Liability before beginning service. The Waiver of Liability can be found on the Beaches Habitat website. Additionally, the form can be sent to you via email, fax or postal mail. Beaches Habitat for Humanity must have a signed copy of the Waiver of Liability on file when you begin your service.
Daily Sign-in:
  1. Each work day, a list of registered volunteers will be available at the meeting location. You are required to find your name on the list and sign to verify that you arrived. Be sure to indicate the number of hours you plan to work on the sign-in sheet.
  2. Arrive on time. Some mornings, particularly Saturdays, can be very busy. You may have to wait in line to sign in. Arriving early will allow you to sign in without delaying the start of the work day.
Daily verification of completion of hours:
  1. 1. Many referring agencies provide a form to track community service hours. You must bring this to the construction site each day you work. If one is not provided for you it is your responsibility to obtain one. Beaches Habitat staff have tracking forms available upon request.
  2. At the completion of each work day, the Beaches Habitat staff or AmeriCorps member who supervised your work must sign your form to verify your completed hours.
Final Verification of hours:
  1. Following completion of your hours, submit your completed tracking form to our Community Outreach Director. Only the Community Outreach Director may sign to verify completion of your full service requirement.
  2. If a verification letter is required, please allow two business days for the completion of your verification letter.
 

If you did not sign in and do not have a signed record of your hours, you will not receive verification of those hours. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Beaches Habitat for Humanity reserves the following rights:
  1. Volunteers who are not registered to work may be turned away if the construction site is full. There are a maximum number of volunteers for the work site on each day.
  2. Volunteers who are registered to work have until 7am on the day of the volunteer opportunity to cancel a scheduled date. This can be done through the online Volunteer Calendar of by contacting the Community Outreach Director. After the second date that you are scheduled and do not show up without contacting the Community Outreach Director, you may be removed from the schedule for future dates and turned away from the construction site.
  3. You are required to follow the construction site and safety policies. This includes arriving on time, dressing appropriately, and NOT being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  4. You will be asked to leave the work site if your language or attitude is disruptive to construction site activities. In addition, you may be asked to leave if you are unproductive or in any way hinder the progress of construction site activities.
