The Superintendent of Public Instruction, in consultation with the Director of the Department of Early Learning (DEL), is required to review applications for districts seeking to waive the requirement that state-funded full-day kindergarten teachers administer the Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS).

A school district may apply for an annual, renewable waiver from administering the Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS) for one or more of its state-funded full-day kindergarten schools. This application is for 2012–13 state-funded full day kindergarten districts only.  Districts funded for the first time in 2013–14 will complete a separate application, with later deadlines.

Applications for waivers must be submitted annually.  Waivers will not be available once WaKIDS is required to be administered statewide.

The waiver application must be submitted:

  • By the school district superintendent or his/her designee.
  • Using this online application.
  • By April 26, 2013.

The decision to grant waivers will be made by the Superintendent of Public Instruction in consultation with the Director of the Department of Early Learning.

Districts will be notified of the decision on their application by May 8, 2013.
