Thank you for considering a career in the trowel trades, our work is demanding and it is rewarding. It Builds confidence, strength and independence.  

Proceed only if you meet the minimum requirements and are able to produce supporting documentation.

  1. Obtained the age of 18

  2. High School Graduate or G.E.D equivalent

  3. Have a valid Michigan Driver’s License

  4. Must be a U.S. Citizen

  5. Be Drug Free

  6. Obtain Minimum ACT WorkKeys Skills Assessment Score

  7. Obtain two signed character reference letters from non-family members

You are required to schedule WorkKeys Assessment at Macomb Community College’s MTEC. Please call  (586) 498-4130 to register. MTEC Map

You will be taking three Workkeys assessments, Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information. For additional information, please go to . There are practice test available as well as skill description and skill level information. The Applied Mathematics test is designed to be taken with a calculator.

The test is free if you obtain a Voucher from a Macomb Works Agency, call (586) 586-574-2170 or visit the location across from MTEC. Macomb MI Works

After passing the Skills Assessment hand deliver the following documents to 21031 Ryan Road, Warren. Click here for a Map to the IMI Training Center

  1. Copy of High School Diploma and Transcripts showing GPA or GED with scores

  2. Bring Valid Driver’s License and Social Security Card to verify Citizenship

  3. Copy of ACT WorkKeys Skills Assessment Scores

  4. Character Reference Letters

Qualified Applicants will be scheduled for an interview with the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee.

Selected applicants will be enrolled in the International Masonry Institute’s pre-job training program at the IMI Detroit Training Center. Upon successful completion, trainees are registered with the Department of Labor and will become members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 2 of Michigan.
