  • Windows desktops/laptops/tablets

Goal: Find system configuration of Windows desktop/laptop/tablet computers.

This information will be used to: Optimize Firefox for computer configurations in use.

Task:
Reach out to the following two target groups to collect data.
  1. Users having Firefox in their Computer
  2. Users without Firefox in their Computer
Report data from equal numbers of 1 and 2 above.

Step 1: Get Permission
  • You must have the users' permission to view and upload their computers' system information
  • Do not gather the users' name, email or any other information that personally identifies them

Step 2: Collect data with permission
  • Using msinfo32 (Step by step instructions: http://www.wikihow.com/Find-System-Specs) export system configuration data to a .txt file.
  • Edit the .txt file. Replace the computer user's name (found approximately at line 30) with "U-N" throughout the file. Save this edited file.

Step 4: Upload data
  • Upload msinfo log file. Before uploading the file, rename it to [your-first-name][count-of-files-you-uploaded].txt

Other Instructions:
  • It is important that for every computer with Firefox, you must find one computer without Firefox.
  • If the computer has more than one user, ask for the total number of users
  • Find the oldest to the youngest computers - we don't want only the most recent ones
