Groove-based rhythm

About you

Instructions

You will be presented with several rhythmic patterns. We would like you to listen to them and rate them according to 1) how much pleasure you experience listening to them and 2) how complex you find them. Please try to base your ratings on your immediate response and listen to the whole rhythm before continuing to the next page. The whole survey takes about 15-20 minutes.

Perceived complexity in rhythm can be understood as feelings of irregularity, unpredictability, tension, instability, violation of expectation and deviation from a regular rhythmic pattern.

The first two patterns you will hear (on the next two pages) are just for further instructions and so that you get used to the format and adjust the volume to a comfortable level. If available, please use good quality headphones or sound system.
