The Radiation Health Committee has recommended that the preferred method of disposal for small numbers of smoke alarms is to include them in the domestic rubbish.
In many cases, reusable paints of the same colour are pumped into a tank where the material is mixed and tested. The paint is adjusted with additives and colourants as necessary. Finally the paint is fine filtered and packaged for sale.
Due to licence regulations, paint cannot be accepted at the Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre.
You can drop off these items for free at either the Drysdale or Geelong Resource Recovery Centre.
Residents can drop off expanded polystyrene for recycling at the Geelong Resource Recovery Centre free of charge.
Once collected, your polystyrene will be recycled and re-manufactured into domestic building products.

Some metal dealers will pick up whitegoods for free. Contact the dealer to confirm that there is no charge and that the item will be accepted. Alternatively, you can drop off whitegoods for free at the Drysdale or Geelong Resource Recovery Centres.
These items will damage the machinery at the recycling facility. To recycle items in good condition, contact a charity during business hours. Items in poor condition an be placed in the red lid garbage bin.
Ceramics, vases, mirrors, heat-proof cooking glass, drinking glass and china can not be recycled because they heat at a different rate to regular glass bottles and jars.
This causes them to weaken recycled glass and contaminate a whole load of sorted glass, even in small amounts.
Aerosol cans can be re-manufactured into food cans, pet food cans, tins and soft drink cans.
You can drop off household batteries at Customer Service Centres or the Geelong Resource Recovery Centre in Douro St North Geelong. This is a free drop off service.
Steel cans that can be recycled include: food cans, pet food cans, coffee tins, oil cans, aerosol cans, bottle tops and jar lids. There is no need to rinse these cans - just scrape clean.
To recycle plastic bags, drop them off at specially marked recycling bins at the front of most Coles and Woolworths supermarkets.
The next mobile collection day will be on Saturday 14 February 2015 at the Operations Centre, 299 Anakie Road, Lovely Banks, Geelong. Residents can drop off a wide range of chemicals from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
