Good day, my name is Fabian, a PhD student from School of Social and Political Sciences, Monash University, Australia. My research is under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Duffy and Dr. Elizabeth Coleman.
You are invited to take part in this study by completing the online survey about your experiences of outdoor public spaces located in the Docklands. Please read this explanatory statement carefully before deciding whether or not you wish to participate in this research. If you would like further information regarding any aspect of this project, you are welcome to contact the researchers via the phone numbers or email addresses listed above.

What does the research involve?
This research involves voluntary participation in an online survey to understand your experiences and opinions about the outdoor public space of the Melbourne Docklands. This study is to understand the possible role of certain outdoor urban public spaces that may contribute towards restorative environment through people’s experiences and emotions. The term restorative environment refers to a particular environment and environmental configuration which promote recovery from stress and mental fatigue. The online survey will approximately take 10-15 minutes of your time.

Consent to participate and withdrawal from the research
The participation in this research is entirely voluntary. If you would like to participate, please answer the questions provided on the online website. You may choose to skip any question that you do not wish to answer. You can withdraw completely by simply closing the survey website. However, once you have clicked the “submit” button, it will not be possible to separate your data from the data pool and therefore it is not possible to withdraw after submission of the survey. Submission of the survey means you have consented to participate and that you agree for me to include the data you provide in this project.

Possible benefits and risks to participants
Your participation will be highly valuable in creating improved urban spaces for you and others. There is no foreseeable risk of harm in participating in this research.

Confidentiality
The online survey will be completely anonymous. However, you are also invited to participate in a follow up interview (although this is not compulsory). If you would like to be a part of the interview process, you will be asked to forward your contact details to the researchers using these email addresses michelle.duffy@federation.edu.au  or  mfhas3@student.monash.edu , who will then contact you to organise an appointment.

Storage of data
The data will be collected using SurveyGizmo online survey tool and it will be in their server until I download it. This digital data contains no names or contact information and will be stored on a secured drive of Monash University server for a minimum of five years from the completion of the research or from the time that the results of the research are published, unless otherwise requested. The data will be deleted from the hard drive if it is in digital form while physical data will be shredded after the five years of minimum retention period.

Results
Upon completion of this research which is scheduled in August 2017, a digital copy of research summary can be provided if requested.
