FCA Community Survey 2015

Two years ago, the Fauntleroy Community Association (FCA) sent a survey to over 3000 residents in the Fauntleroy area. The purpose was to find out what matters to Fauntleroy residents, so the FCA Board could better focus on the community's concerns.

Since that survey, FCA has taken a number of actions to address issues that residents like you identified, and you can choose to learn more about these things below.

This year we are conducting a new survey that probes deeper into some of the areas we asked about before, and into some new issues that have emerged since the last survey.

For example, what are some specific traffic issues that you would like to see improved? Are you concered about a potential increase in multiplex construction? If so, is your concern about overcrowding? Lack of off-street parking? Do you feel safe in your home? Do you think that crime issues have improved?

Please take a few minutes to complete this very short survey. All responses are anonymous, and we will present the results to you when the survey is complete.
1. Prior to this mailing/email, were you aware of the Fauntleroy Community Association (FCA)?
2. Have you ever been a member of FCA?
3. Are you currently a member?
The results of the FCA survey two years ago told us that CRIME was the number one issue residents wanted FCA to address.
In the fall of 2013, we hosted a community meeting that included the commander of the Seattle Police Department's (SPD) Southwest Precinct. Leaders from the precinct now regularly attend the FCA monthly meeting, and we are working with them on their neighborhood policing plan to help better address issues affecting the Fauntleroy community.

What about now? Do you think crime issues in the neighborhood have improved over the past two years?
4. How important are the following crime and public safety issues to the work FCA should be doing?

Emergency preparedness
Crime prevention, including Block Watches

Results of the survey two years ago told us that TRAFFIC/ TRANSPORTATION was the number two issue residents wanted FCA to address. We dealt with concerns about on-street parking by Car2Go vehicles, and are working with the officials from the mayor's office, city council, SDOT, and SPD on specific traffic issues, including parking and noise.  On November 6, FCA hosted an open community forum to discuss traffic and transportation concerns with representatives from the mayor's office, SDOT,  and the City Council.

What traffic and transportation concerns matter to you now?
7. How important are these transportation and traffic issues to the Fauntleroy community?

FCA has been and continues to be a supporter of ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP in the Fauntleroy area and beyond.   FCA supports the work of the Seattle Green Space Coalition, which leads city-wide citizen efforts to convert abandoned Seattle City Light substations into pocket parks, pea patches and other public green spaces.  Friends of Lincoln Park hosts work parties, and created beautiful signage for Lincoln Park's trails. For years FCA has served as fiscal agent for Fauntleory Watershed Council projects, including the current restoration of the Kilbourne ravine. And when completed, the new wastewater pump station and Cove Park will sport many new pieces of art initiated by FCA volunteers.
10. How important are these environmental investments to the Fauntleroy community?
Space Cell Not Important_______Neutral._______Very Important
Continued stewardship of Fauntleroy Creek

FCA sponsors or co-sponsors several events every year that foster community and plain old good times. The Fauntleroy Fall Festival in October draws more than 2000 people for an afternoon of music, games, crafts and performances. In March, the Fauntleroy  Food Fest  showcases local eateries and agencies, and serves as FCA's annual membership meeting, and showcases many local eateries. In June,  FCA co-sponsored the first annual Swing into Summer dance. And throughout the year, FCA greets new residents with our New Neighbor Welcome Bags.

We all know community is important. How do you think these events are doing to support that? Do you have comments, suggestions, or other ideas for events?
