This residential summer fellowship engages American Indian undergraduates to explore the challenges related to the representation of communities of color and American Indian Nations in historical organizations, tribal governments, and public history programs. The fellowship is designed for students interested in the different career options within the museum and history fields with an emphasis on American Indian cultural and historical preservation. Students will have the opportunity to explore various sites and get a behind the scenes look of such sites as state and tribal museums, archaeology sites, and preservation labs.

WHO IS ELLIGIBLE TO APPLY?
Eligibility is limited to currently enrolled undergraduates who attend a Minnesota University or College. Students attending out-of-state Colleges and Universities with a permanent Minnesota residential address can also apply. The Minnesota Historical Society acknowledges the forced removal of Dakota people from their ancestral homelands in Minnesota. Through a private grant from the Good Family Foundation, MNHS is also able to accept applications of students from Dakota communities outside of Minnesota whom are currently enrolled in any undergraduate studies. Students are not required to be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe, however students must be affiliated with an Indigenous community.
WHAT ARE THE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS?
1. Travel to St. Paul, MN
2. Attend and participate in all required seminars and discussions
3. Complete all necessary coursework, readings and journals
4. Reside in fellowship housing shared with other fellows
