The effect of different types of media on mood and attitudes

Brief

This study investigates how different media types (e.g. books and the internet) may influence individual’s mood and attitudes. This will be investigated by asking a series of questions about your use of these types of media, showing you an example of each and asking some questions about the examples. The research is being conducted by Jennifer Kuroski, a third year psychology undergraduate student at the University of Central Lancashire and is being supervised by Dr Joanne Bryce.

You may find some of the materials in the questionnaire distressing as some of them may contain violent content. Therefore, if you think you will become distressed by this please do not participate. Participation is completely voluntary and if you do choose to participate then become distressed, please feel free to withdraw at any point before pressing the submit button on the completed questionnaire. To withdraw simply close your browser window before submitting the questionnaire and none of the data entered will be stored. Unfortunately once your questionnaire has been submitted to the researcher it will not be possible to withdraw your data as it is impossible to identify individual responses.

All data is anonymous and confidential and will be stored on a secure folder on the university network. The data will only be seen and used by the researcher and the research supervisor. However, under certain circumstances it may be necessary for others (e.g. external examiners) to view the data.

If you have returned the questionnaire and feel distressed in any way the study brief will contain sources of help.

If you have any futher questions before you decide whether to take part, please feel free to contact the researcher or research supervisor using the details below.
