RowanSOM D.O.C.S. Mentors Program
January, 2017 Dear Colleague: The Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM) is seeking your assistance to provide mentorship to the next generation of aspiring osteopathic physicians. The Schools’ student mentor program- RowanSOM D.O.C.S. (D.O.s Counseling Students) - has been a valuable resource for our medical students for many years. Due to the popularity of the program and the increased enrollment, we need additional physicians to “pay it forward” to assist a medical student who can benefit from your experience. You can also find motivation and inspiration by sharing your pearls of wisdom with a medical student. How the Program Works: The RowanSOM D.O.C.S. program pairs students interested in finding a mentor with physicians who are willing to mentor and share their professional interests. Matches are based on student-selected preferences, including medical specialty, location, experience and more. The goal of the RowanSOM D.O.C.S. program is to provide our students with a resource for professional guidance and career counseling. Although participation does not require a large amount of time, it will require a commitment from both the student and the mentor to reach out to one another and keep in touch through face-to-face meetings, phone or e-mail. Some great opportunities to meet with your student(s) include attending an SOM networking event or the AROC Student Professional Day, getting together for lunch or dinner, or to take in a local sporting event. To sign-up for the RowanSOM D.O.C.S. Program, simply complete the survey. Please note that this program is open to all NJ physicians, so feel free to share this information with your colleagues. Once a match is made with a student whose interests match your expertise, experience or location, you’ll be notified about your student or students and how to contact them. Please direct any questions you may have about this program to the Office of Student Affairs and Alumni Engagement, 856-566-6740. Thank you for your consideration and support of this important student program. Sincerely, Kathryn C. Lambert, D.O.
