Community Access to the University of Winnipeg Awareness and Perceptions Questionnaire

Letter of Information and Consent

Attention Valued Members of the U of W Community,

We invite you to participate in this short anonymous survey. Historically The University of Winnipeg has strived to make our campus more inviting for inner-city and traditionally underrepresented communities with the aim of opening access to a university education. In recent years, the University has engaged in a number of initiatives focusing on "community learning", which refers to the active integration of the University into the social, cultural, and educational life of the community.  An interdisciplinary team from the University  is currently involved in a three-year study of these initiatives with the intent of examining their reach and strengthening their successes.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to see what various constituencies at The University of Winnipeg, including students, support staff, faculty, and administrators, know and think about programs we offer that engage marginalized communities. Our questions address general knowledge of the University's community learning policy and specific community focused initiatives.

This questionnaire will take approximately 8 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary and you may decline to answer any question(s) you would rather not address. To ensure answers remain anonymous you are not required to provide any identification information in the survey (e.g., name, address, e-mail, etc.). Because participation is anonymous, your responses cannot be withdrawn after you complete the questionnaire, but you cannot be identified as the source of any information.

To enter the draw for one of three $100 giftcards from Polo Park Shopping Centre simply send an e-mail titled "Draw" to researchoffice@uwinnipeg.ca and you will receive a draw entry confirmation. You do not need to complete the questionnaire to enter this draw but we would appreciate it if you would.

This project is being conducted by Dr. Nathan Hall and Dr. Doris Wolf. It is part of a larger collaborative research project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council to study The University of Winnipeg’s existing community learning initiatives. We will never identify you as the source of any information you provide, and we will only use that information in the context of project reports and scholarly publication. Survey data will be downloaded from the survey website and stored on password-protected computers and in locked cabinets in the university offices of the research team for five years. Once we determine that the data is no longer needed, it will be destroyed by electronic file/paper shredding. You may contact us in the future to get a summary of project results and details of any publications.
