(923-76) Joan Dostal - Understanding Sensory Processing Differences: When our nervous system is processing sensation effectively, there is a solid foundation for development. The child develops a feeling of safety and security based on his/her perceptions of the world. For some children the messages are distorted or disorganized, leading to difficulty with daily routines, play, learning new skills, and interaction with others. This workshop is designed to help you reframe some of the behaviors and responses of the child using a sensory lens to better understand and respond to the challenges that result from sensory processing differences. Demonstration of common strategies and group problem solving will be incorporated into the training.

12. Friday Keynote (6:00 pm to 9:00 pm)

(925-SWFC15-CNF1) Denise Goodman - Parenting From the Trenches: See your kids in a whole new light! This workshop offers a toolbox of strategies for parenting children and teens. Topics include developing trust and attachment while helping children learn to manage their own behaviors, building self esteem and maintaining sanity. The presenter will give special attention to the unique world of teens.

(925-116) Jody Johnston Pawel - Get Cooperation without Squeezing the Juice - Learn the top ten most effective and practical language and action tools for fostering internal motivation, building self-esteem, getting cooperation, and teaching children tasks, behaviors, values and self-responsibility. Get short-term results and long-term benefits - without stickers or bribes - while defusing or avoiding power struggles and tantrums.
(983-14) Eugene Smiley - Autism Spectrum Disorders - Caregivers will enter the world experienced daily by the child diagnosed with autism, Asperger\'s syndrome or one of the other pervasive developmental disorders. Participants will understand the syndrome of the various disorders making up the spectrum and become more familiar with the most effective therapeutic treatments currently available. Caregivers will have the opportunity to consider the world of autism from the child\'s perspective and be reminded that the child is a child-not a diagnosis. Participants will come to understand the importance of self soothing and other strategies including how to recognize triggers leading to explosive responses and how to de-escalate a meltdown. Practical techniques, helpful websites and other resources will be identified to further inform participants beyond the training event.
