We would be grateful to you if you could assist us by participating in our study investigating characteristics of self-defining memories. You will be asked to complete questionnaires, which will ask details of your current mood, and then ask you to recall a range of positive and negative memories about yourself. The study will take no longer than thirty minutes to complete. You are free to withdraw from the study at any stage by pressing ‘exit’. If you complete the study, your data will be confidential and securely stored for a minimum of five years. All information collected for the project will be destroyed when no longer needed. Data will be linked to participant number only to ensure anonymity. It is possible that you may find recalling some personal memories to be upsetting. If you do become distressed you may wish to discontinue with the study.

The principal investigator, Dr Craig Steel, is a clinical psychologist whom you may contact if you have any questions or if you feel distressed due to participating in this survey. Contact details are above and will be repeated at the end of the survey.

Other sources of support are listed at the end of the survey. This project has been reviewed, according to procedures specified by the University of Reading Research Ethics Committee, and allowed to proceed.

Thank you for your help.
