This study is designed to document the changing makeup of the black population in the USA and the language we use to describe blackness. It is part of a performance art score created by artist Aisha Cousins in response to the 2010 US Census' attempts to confine the whole of black America into a single checkbox. The results will be available at aishacousins.com so you can use them to help the public think critically about how our choices in language can erase or reveal valuable information about the USA's black population.
