Enhancing Internet Experiences Plugin

This task is part of a research study conducted by Dr. Norman Sadeh at Carnegie Mellon University, Dr. Joel Reidenberg at Fordham University, and Dr. Pedro Leon at Stanford University and is funded by the National Science Foundation.

The purpose of the research is to build a browser plugin that shows additional information about the websites that Internet users visit.

Procedures
You will be asked to install a browser plugin. The plugin will only collect information for two specific purposes: 1) To verify that the plugin was properly installed in your browser; and 2) To understand how you interact with the different elements of the plugin. However, the plugin will not collect any information that can be used to personally identify you. You will be able to uninstall the plugin after you complete the study.

During the study you will be asked to visit three websites with the plugin installed and to select one of those three websites. You will provide your opinion on both the selected website and the plugin.

You should complete this study in one session and the expected completion time, including time to install and uninstall the plugin is 30-minutes. You will be paid $3 dollars after successfully completing the task. You will not be paid if you participate in this study more than once.

Your participation is voluntary and all data collected through this questionnaire will be stored securely and only be used for research purposes and by authorized researchers.

Participant Requirements
You have to be 18 years or older, use the Google Chrome web browser, and use a laptop or desktop (i.e., no tablets, smartphones, or iPhones are supported) to participate in this study.

Risks
The risks and discomfort associated with participation in this study are no greater than those ordinarily encountered in daily life or during other online activities and include boredom or fatigue. We will take a number of measures to protect your responses: 1) we do not collect any personal information; 2) all survey data will be stored securely; 3) all the collected data will only be accessed by authorized researchers.

Benefits
There may be no personal benefit from your participation in the study but the knowledge received may be of value to humanity.

Compensation & Costs
You will be paid $3 dollars for completing this study. There will be no cost to you if you participate in this study.

Confidentiality
