  • The Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is searching for subject matter experts in the scientific, technical, and medical professions to be considered for a consensus study committee titled “Strengthening the Disaster Resilience of Academic Biomedical Research Communities.” The committee will explore the effects of disasters on the biomedical academic research community and produce a report that describes the extent of the impact of prior disasters on that community and recommendations and guidance for individual researchers, research institutions, and sponsoring agencies regarding potential actions to be taken that can mitigate the impact of future disasters on research facilities, reagents, and animals. This study will not consider human subjects research.

    Experts in the fields of emergency management, facilities management, laboratory sciences, veterinary sciences, life sciences research, engineering sciences and management, health services research, library sciences, informatics and information technology, continuity of operations planning, public health and healthcare preparedness, national security, and healthcare management, are needed for the committee.
