Participation Award Application

The Organizing Committee of the Pre‐World Congress Meeting of New Researchers in Statistics and Probability (the "Pre-World Congress Meeting") invites applications for Participation Awards from new researchers from developing countries.

Application Instructions/Process
  • Deadline: Applications must be submitted by April 8, 2016.
  • At the discretion of the organizers, support/funds are limited.
  • Fields with an * are mandatory.
  • This online application must be filled out completely and submitted in one session.
  • It is not possible to save a partially completed application and return to it later.
  • Once your application is submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address set out on the application.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Applicants must be:
    • graduate students at the master’s or PhD levels, or
    • academic with PhD (with a maximum of eight years from PhD completion), and
    • a citizen or permanent resident from any the following World Bank country income categories:

  • You must also register for the World Congress in Probability and Statistics conference (see here), if you are awarded pre-meeting funding, the registration fee for the World congress will also be paid for you. 
  • You must supply the required documentation within two weeks of returning from the World Congress in Probability and Statistics.

Award Details
  • Young researchers may apply for Participation Awards to attend both the Pre-World Congress Meeting and the World Congress in Probability and Statistics. Successful candidates will receive:
    • a per diem allowance for travel and local costs, and
    • reimbursement of registration fees for the World Congress in Probability and Statistics.
  • Per diem amounts are determined by the country where the applicants are working or studying. There are three levels of reimbursement based on the World Bank country income categories listed above.
Conditions of the Award
  1. Awards will be administered by the International Statistical Institute (ISI).
  2. ISI will disburse the awards after the conclusion of the Pre-World Congress Meeting and the World Congress in Probability and Statistics.
  3. Awards are conditional on the candidate:
    1. joining the ISI as a "Regular Member", if not already a member (Regular Membership details available here),
    2. providing ISI will their full flight itinerary and receipts, accommodation booking and receipts, and
    3. acknowledging receipt of the award wherever possible and relevant, for example, in publications or posters.
  4. Funds will be disbursed only by transfer to awardees’ bank accounts. The transfer of funds will take place after awardees have:
    1. registered for both the Pre-World Congress Meeting and the World Congress in Probability and Statistics,
    2. obtained all necessary visas, and purchased an economy ticket and submitted an itinerary indicating flight cost and paid amount
  5. Awardees must submit the following documents and banking information by email to Lynne Billard [lynne@stat.uga.edu], Bernoulli representative:
    • Flight itinerary and receipts,
    • Registration fee receipts and registration confirmations from the Pre-World Congress Meeting and the World Congress in Probability and Statistics,
    • Accommodation confirmation and receipts, and
    • Banking details:
      • Name and full address of the account holder (the recipient),
      • Name and full address of the recipient's Bank,
      • Recipient's branch and account number, and
      • IBAN code (European residents), or
      • Swift code (Non-European residents), or
      • ABA routing number (in cases of bank accounts in the United States).
