Social Media (Facebook) for Nurses

Welcome

Welcome to this survey on the positives, perils and pitfalls of social media (Facebook) for nurses. My name is Dr. Janet Green and I am a nursing academic and a Doctor of Education student at the University of Technology Sydney. My supervisor is Associate Professor Matthew Kearney.

The purpose of this research/online survey is to find out how registered caregivers worldwide (nurses, midwives, enrolled nurses) use Facebook, and ascertain their experiences with using this social networking platform. I hope to be able to use this data to help undergraduate nurses navigate the complexities of social media (Facebook use) and prevent unprofessional behaviour.

This survey asks you to respond to questions about your Facebook use and how it has impacted on your professional life.

After you complete the survey there will be an invitation for you to be involved in a post-survey interview. Please consider this opportunity.

The survey has 34 questions and should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete.

There are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers! Please complete all of the questions as honestly as possible.

You can change your mind at any time and stop completing the survey without consequences.

Risks/benefits to the participants
You are not being asked to give access to your Facebook page. I am asking you to complete a survey. Risks to you are minimal, and benefits are expected to outweigh any risks of participation. Although there are no direct or immediate benefits to you by participating in the study, you will be sharing valuable insights about your positive and negative experiences of using Facebook. Your experiences will contribute to a better understanding of how to maximise the benefits and minimise the risks of Facebook, and other social media use for registered caregivers.

Costs and payments to the participants
There are no costs to you or payments made for participating in this survey

Confidentiality
You will not be asked for any information in this survey that could be linked to you. All information is stored online by SurveyGizmo which is secure and encrypted.
