AARCMCC EP ONR 2016 Racers Survey

AARCMCC EP ONR 2016 Racers Survey

Welcome to the inaugural (and hopefully annual) AARCMCC EP ONR Racers Survey.

this survey has been produced by your newly elected and very friendly EP ONR Committee.

We have put together a list of questions from our own observations of racing at events, feedback from the racing community, from reading lots of posts on social media and forums and also speaking with international racers on a number of the topics below.

We thank you in advance for your time, look forward to analysing your responses and using this information to shape and inform future proposals and improvements for Championship events in the future.  This will also hopefully flow down to an improved racing experience at club meets all round the country as well.
A bit about you, where you race, what you race!

Your Opinions on the Current Sanctioned Classes.

We are not saying they are wrong or suggesting we should introduce more or less classes, but everything in our hobby is subject to "fashion" and changes all the time - we need to know what you think!

How National Championships should be run.  How often, for how long and when predominantly.  We want to see as many of the countries best and most promising racers attend the nationals, this means making the event as attractive as possible.
9. How Often Should National Championships be Run *This question is required.
10.  What time of year should the National Championship be run *This question is required.

12. Rather than a single national championship, would you prefer a national series where State Championship Results contribute to a final championship position – this could be run with or without a “Final” National Championship?
  *This question is required.
13. How Many Days should National Championships run for? *This question is required.
14. Should Rain Days be mandatory for National Championships *This question is required.
How State Championships Should be Run.  Just like the nationals, we need to find ways of making these events as attractive as possible and supported by the local racers - and not just when at their home club.
15. How Often Should State Championships be Run *This question is required.
16. What time of year should *your* state championships be run (as identified  earlier)

Control Equipment.  Yep, now we are into the really juicy stuff.  A hot topic of conversation at every race track around the country.  The success of the ETS run by Scotty Ernst cannot be ignored.  But what is it exactly that makes it so good?  We don't have the population density of Europe, so some aspects of the ETS are really not practical for us - and then, have they got it right? or is it just so popular now that the racers have to just deal with the rules if they want to race in such a big event.  We're not sure, but we want to know what you think!
21. Do you believe "control" equipment, of any sort is able to achieve any of the following

(Control being either a single, must run, item or a closed list of acceptable items) *This question is required.
22. Should any of the following classes have control equipment at national events for sanctioned classes?
  *This question is required.
Space Cell ESCBatteryMotorTyresTraction AdditiveNo, this class should have none of these controls

Touring Car Modified
Touring Car Stock (13.5)

Tyres, Tyres, Tyres....

Currently these are semi controlled at events for Touring Cars (number of tyres run is up to the individual, tyre additive is open) and this has been largely successful to date, with the occasional "less than ideal on the day" tyre choice slipping in.
23. Would you support AARCMCC introducing a control tyre (or tyres) to be consistent for the whole year at all events – ie: tyre used at the Nationals is then the control tyre for all State Championships for the year that follows, or, a list of say 3 tyres are "approved" and events must choose from this list.
  *This question is required.
24. If Traction Additive is to be controlled (as tyres are now), should it be club supplied at a station away from the pits or a marked bottle per racer and included as part of your entry fee. *This question is required.
25. Are you happy with the tyre allocations as defined in the rules currently for the class you most often run? if not, would one of the options below be in favour?
  *This question is required.
Electronic Speed Controls - please note, we are *not* discussing in these questions moving away from blinky for the current 13.5 and 21.5 classes, this is about control item, not settings.
26. If a control ESC is introduced for any class, how much at most should it cost? (please answer even if you do not support a control ESC for any class)
  *This question is required.
27. If not a single Control ESC, would you support a narrowed down list of acceptable ESC’s within the price range above? (say, 3-5 units)
  *This question is required.
Batteries - possibly the highest cost "set" of items to the upper end racer apart from the chassis itself (but not always!)
28. If a control Battery is introduced for any class, how much at most should it cost? (please answer even if you do not support a control Battery for any class)
  *This question is required.
29. If not a single Control Battery, would you support a narrowed down list of acceptable Batteries within the price range above?
  *This question is required.
30. If not a single Control Battery, would you support capacity or “C” rating limitation for any of the current sanctioned classes? *This question is required.
Motors.  Save the best for last huh?
31. If a control Motor is introduced for any class, how much at most should it cost (please answer even if you do not agree to control motors)
  *This question is required.
32. If a control motor is introduced, should this be a handout motor at the event for a nominal fee or should racers be required to purchase in advance?
  *This question is required.
33. If a control motor is introduced, should this have fixed/locked timing (say 35deg) or should this be kept open?
  *This question is required.
34. If not a single Control Motor, would you support a narrowed down list of acceptable motors within the price range above?
  *This question is required.
35. Regardless of Control Motor introduction, would you like to see an FDR limitation for any sanctioned class?
  *This question is required.

37. Vehicle Weight (for Touring Cars only)
What should be the weight of race cars?

Trophies and Concourse

We ask these questions as Trophies are currently one of the highest cost elements of running an event.  it is not uncommon that up to half your entry fee could go towards the cost of the trophies!  they are not cheap!!
38. Trophies and Prizes.  Currently the rules mandate the following trophies for racers at state and national championships.

• Top Qualifier for each qualifying class
• Top 10 finishing positions for each class

  *This question is required.
39. the rules currently mandate that concourse is conducted for each body shell type at state and national events *This question is required.
