Gratuities On Cruises

1. Cruise companies typically offer two ways to cover gratuities for crew: prepaid or discretionary.

Prepaid gratuities are included in your cruise fare. Discretionary gratuities are typically are paid at the end of your cruise - as in stuffed into envelopes or handed over directly to crew.

There is a third option: no gratuities. Some cruisers, particularly those from countries where tipping is not customary, ask the question: Doesn't the cruise company compensate its employees adequately enough?
