AEF™ Teacher of the Year Application

Program and Candidate Information, Eligibility

Arizona Educational Foundation’s AEF™ Teacher of the Year program is the only statewide teacher recognition program that spotlights the contributions of Arizona’s public school teachers.  The AEF™ Teacher of the Year program annually honors 10 exceptionally skilled, dedicated public school teachers.

Teachers may self-nominate, be nominated by a student, co-worker, administrator, school or district committee, friend or family member to apply for the award.  Candidates are those individuals who have gained the respect and admiration of students, parents, and co-workers. They play an active and useful role in their communities as well as their schools, often distinguishing themselves as leaders. They have a superior ability to help all students achieve.

Each Fall, the new Teacher of the Year is announced for the first time at the annual Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony.

ELIGIBILITY

Nominees must:
• Spend the majority (over 50%) of the school day in direct instruction to students;
• Be certified to teach Pre-K-12th Grade (or combination) in Arizona and work at a state-accredited public school or school operating under the Bureau of Indian Education;
• Have completed at least four (4) full years as a classroom teacher when submitting the application;
• Be a full-time teacher and plan to continue in an active teaching status through 2021;
• Not have been selected as an AEF™ Teacher of the Year, Semifinalist or Ambassador for Excellence in the past.

PRIZES

  • Arizona Teacher of the Year (1):
    • $15,000 cash
    • Arizona’s candidate for National Teacher of the Year 
    • Meet the President of the United States (pending per each administration)
    • One week at International Space Camp in Huntsville, AL
    • National State Teacher of the Year Program Induction Conference
    • Full scholarship to Argosy University/Phoenix
    • AZK12 Center Scholarship (Complimentary Coaching Saturdays, Summer Institute, Working Retreat)
    • Professional speech and storytelling training
    • Participate in Fiesta Bowl Parade on APS fire engine 
    • Arizona State Teacher of the Year ring from Herff Jones
  • Ambassadors for Excellence (4):
    • $5,000 cash
    • Partial scholarship (50%) to Argosy University/ Phoenix
    • AZK12 Center Scholarship (Complimentary Coaching Saturdays, Summer Institute, Working Retreat)
    • Professional speech and storytelling training
    • Participate in Fiesta Bowl Parade on APS fire engine 
  • Five Remaining Finalists (5):
    • $1,000 cash
    • Partial scholarship (25%) to Argosy University/Phoenix
    • AZK12 Center Teacher Leadership Institute registration
    • Participate in Fiesta Bowl Parade on APS fire engine
