Overview:
The Rick Curtis HIGH FIVE® Award, presented in honor of former Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA) CEO Rick Curtis, recognizes organizations that have embraced the
principles of HIGH FIVE® in their programs and practices. Rick Curtis strongly believed in the importance of recreation and sport in the healthy development of children and youth, and HIGH FIVE® was among those initiatives.
Eligibility
- Alberta based organizations, programs and practices
- Organizations include:
- Municipalities
- Not for Profit Organizations
- Business
- Schools
- Alberta Recreation & Parks Association membership is encouraged and may be prioritized in the selection process
The project or initiative must:
- Demonstrate a commitment to implementing the principles of HIGH FIVE® in their programs and practices.
- Have a system in place to ensure the quality of their programs in line with HIGH FIVE®.
Deadline to nominate is May 31st.
Main components of the application:
- Outline of how HIGH FIVE® has improved the quality of recreation and sport programs in their organization (max 250 words)
- How has the organization embraced the three guidelines of HIGH FIVE® (max 500 words):
- Welcoming of Diversity and Uniqueness
- Safe
- Developmentally Appropriate)
- How the organization has embraced the five principles of healthy child development (Max 500 words):
- A Caring Adult
- Friends
- Participation
- Play
- Mastery
- Two letters or e-mails of support OR one letter/e-mail of support and a link to evidence of nominee's merit (award, clippings, etc.). Letters can be from a variety of sources including but not limited to staff, volunteers, stakeholder groups, elected officials, parents and children/youth.
