Responsibilities of the Resident Member
The resident member of the RC participates as a full voting member in all RC activities, including program review and policy discussion. The resident member is subject to complying with the same confidentiality, conflict of interest, duality of interest, and fiduciary responsibility policies of the other members. Resident members must be able to devote 15-20 hours to program review before each RC meeting.
The resident member is also a member of the ACGME Council of Review Committee Residents (CRCR). The CRCR is composed of the resident members of each RC, and is an important part of the ACGME because it provides valuable input and feedback to the ACGME Board of Directors about matters related to residents, graduate medical education, and accreditation from the resident perspective. The CRCR meets twice a year; dates are listed below.
Note: It is the responsibility of the program director of the resident member’s residency or fellowship to ensure that the resident will have the necessary time to review programs, attend RC and CRCR meetings, and participate in activities of the RC and the ACGME as is required for RC members. While this nomination is for a term that officially begins July 1, 2017, the resident/fellow will start activities three months prior to that start date in order to participate in a formal orientation meeting and to observe one CRCR and RC meeting.
Information about the RC for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, as well as the ACGME can be found at www.acgme.org. Additional information about the Review Committees can be found here. Policies and Procedures for RCs are located in the ACGME Manual of Policies and Procedures located in the ‘Graduate Medical Education (Policies)’ section of the website.
Orientation Process:
During the six months before the term begins each new member participates in an orientation process.
This includes:
- Observing a Review Committee meeting
- Participating in the formal New Member Orientations, usually held in May.
- Each member signs an agreement to:
- Support ACGME policies and follow ACGME procedures
- Give priority to attending meetings
- Agree to the number of meetings, the workload, and other tasks associated with membership
- Be evaluated on his/her performance by the other members of the Review Committee and ACGME senior staff, which is shared with the appointing organization.
Members sign an agreement committing to their responsibilities and to comply with ACGME policies and procedures. The member agreement relates to Fiduciary Duty, Conflict and Duality of Interest, and Confidentiality.
Members of a Review Committee may not act for or on behalf of the Committee or the ACGME without explicit authorization by the ACGME. This does not preclude Review Committee members from reporting on general committee activities to appropriate organizations.
Completed applications, including personal statement, letter of support and curriculum vitae, must be received through this site by July 22, 2016.
