Hand Pump Functionality

Introduction

Thank you for agreeing to take this short survey about water pump functionality in rural areas of developing countries. Section 1 of the survey asks about installation of hand pumps, and Section 2 asks about operation and maintenance. The survey takes about 8 minutes to complete.

Your responses will inform my ongoing research into water pump functionality in developing countries, currently focusing on Tanzania. This research tests whether there are economic spillovers and/or free riding between neighboring communities in the maintenance of hand pumps, and whether improved coordination between installers of pumps could increase functionality rates.

I am an Economics PhD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, and this research forms part of my PhD dissertation. I worked for an international water NGO in Malawi in 2010, and have researched the economic factors contributing to water pump functionality as part of my graduate studies since 2012. For more information on my existing research see https://sites.google.com/site/rossaokod/research. I gratefully acknowledge financial support from the US-UK Fulbright Commission and the Thouron Award for my graduate studies.
