Mental Health & High School Curriculum Resource School Registration

Opportunity for Teachers and Schools

1.
To help Washington schools meet the new Health Education K12 Learning Standards, OSPI has identified a mental health curriculum resource for use in high school. The resource improves mental health literacy and it is widely taught in schools across Canada. The material is medically accurate and designed for classroom settings.

The curriculum resource takes between 8-12 hours of instructional hours. The modules can be easily organized into 45-minute to 1-hour sessions, usually delivered over a period of two weeks.

Module 1: Reducing stigma Module 2: Understanding mental health and mental illness Module 3: Information on specific mental illness – eating disorders, anxiety, depression, ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and PTSD
Module 4: Experience of mental illness Module 5: Seeking help and finding support Module 6: Importance of positive mental health

2. I understand that the resource is specifically designed for use in grades 9-12
3. I understand that to be eligible to teach the resource, I must attend a 1-day teacher training session.  I understand that efforts will be made to ensure training will happen within my region, or possibly within my county.
4. I am interested in hosting a trainer to offer a 1-day teacher training at my school/building
5. I have, or will consult with the appropriate district representatives regarding the use of the curriculum resource.  I understand that my district may require prior approval to use the resource in my class setting.
