Meritus would be really excited to have you volunteer as a Career Mentor this year!
Career Mentoring at Meritus is aimed at helping Meritus Scholars find professional work, build job application “hard skills”, and enhance career awareness and professionalism.
This year, the Career Mentoring timeline is from August 2016 to May of 2017.
There are two essential components of Mentoring. The first component is the strong relationships and communication between Scholar-Mentor pairs and with Meritus. We expect that Scholars, Mentors, and Staff will be highly responsive and communicate with one another often.
The second component is the monthly assignment schedule that is aimed at strengthening application skills, and career field awareness. The standard commitment is:
1) to complete the Mentor Program curriculum in the Google Drive (resume building, cover letter edits, etc.)
2) 3-4 hours per month checking in with your Scholar in person, by email, or via phone
3) 1 check in per month with the Meritus Career Advisor by phone
Though mentoring “ends” after ten months, pairs are encouraged to stay in touch after the end of the program and continue their relationship!
