Survey of community members and organisations

Introduction

The ACT Government is undertaking a review of the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 (WWVP Act). It has commissioned Nous Group (Nous), a consulting firm, to conduct a survey and other stakeholder consultations to inform the review.

What is the purpose of this survey?
The purpose of this survey is to provide interested community members and organisations with an easy way to provide input into the review. It includes questions on issues raised in a discussion paper which can be found on the Your Say website. It also gives you the opportunity to share any other experiences you have had with the WWVP Act and your views about its operation.

Why is the ACT Government reviewing the WWVP Act?
The WWVP Act has operated in the ACT since November 2012 and requires a review after three and seven years of operation. This first review provides an opportunity to check whether the WWVP Act is operating as intended and consider if it could be improved.

The WWVP Act, and the WWVP scheme it establishes, aims to reduce the risk of harm or neglect to vulnerable people by requiring individuals who work with vulnerable people to have a background check and registration.

‘Vulnerable people’ include children and young people under 18 and disadvantaged adults who access certain regulated activities. These regulated activities include disability and respite care; homelessness services; migrant, refugee and asylum seeker services; services for victims of crime; and some services provided by religious organisations and educational providers. The Access Canberra website includes a full list of regulated activities.

How do I complete the survey?
The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete. Completion of the survey is voluntary and all questions other than those marked with an asterisk are optional.

The information you provide is subject to the confidentiality provisions of the Information Privacy Act 2014. Further information about this Act or the relevant government privacy policy can be found here.

You can save your responses and return to the survey at any time by clicking the “Save & Continue” bar at the top of any page. This will allow you to enter your email address and receive a link to return to the survey later.

How do I provide additional information not included in the survey?
If you wish to provide additional information to inform the review, please email a written submission to robert.sale@nousgroup.com.au.

Who can I speak to for additional information about the survey?
