ESSA Public Input Survey

Introduction and Demographics

The main federal law governing K–12 education was recently updated. The newest version is called the Every Student Succeeds Act, or ESSA. This version of the law replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. As you might imagine, it's not a quick or easy read. To learn more about ESSA we’ve provided some resources for you here: http://www2.ed.gov/policy/elsec/leg/essa/index.html. To learn how TEA is working to implement it please visit: http://tea.texas.gov/.

The passage of ESSA has created a unique opportunity to inform Texas’ education policy. ESSA returns a significant amount of decision making back to the states, requiring them to establish their strategic vision and determine how the new law will affect their accountability, funding, school improvement, and grant-making systems through “state plans.”

We need your help developing the state’s approach to implementing ESSA to ensure students in Texas receive a high-quality education that prepares them for the future. As part of the development of Texas’ state plan, TEA is seeking input from a range of stakeholders and the public. This survey provides you an opportunity to share your views on how Texas should implement provisions of ESSA. We value your voice and appreciate you taking the time to provide input to inform the development of Texas' state plan.

Please complete the survey by 5:00 pm (CT) Friday, November 18, 2016, so that we may review and consider how best to incorporate your input into the state plan. The survey will take less than 10 minutes to complete.
