7. Basic students are now required to be able to hike from the trailhead to viewpoint of Mount Si in under 2 hours, carrying 20% of your body weight or 25lbs (whichever is greater) - before going on climbs. If you don't have access to Mount Si, an alternative hike that gains 3,200' over 4 miles is acceptable.

10. The core of the Mountaineers is the hundreds of volunteers who teach outdoor skills and help on field trips. Do you like to teach and might you be able to help at future classes and field trips? *This question is required.

11. The course is a demanding course. Do you anticipate problems completing the requirements? These include taking the Wilderness Navigation and Wilderness First Aid courses, a day of stewardship, practice sessions with your Small Instructional Group and completing 3 successful climbs (which may take multiple attempts).
