Consent Form
Researchers: Our names are Donna Morris and Dr. Cara Laney from the University of Leicester School of Psychology.
Purpose of research: This study is student research towards a Masters in Forensic Psychology. It aims to look at participant judgments on eyewitness testimony.
Details of participation: This research asks you to read a short trial transcript and complete a short questionnaire about what you read. The transcript includes a description of a purse robbery at knifepoint. Your participation should not last longer than 20 minutes. There is nothing about the procedure that should cause you any discomfort. However, if become uncomfortable, you are free to withdraw your participation at any time, without penalty. Simply return the packet of materials to the experimenter. Your participation is completely confidential. There will be no association of your name with any of your responses. At the end of your participation, you will be given more information about the research. After completing the study you cannot withdraw your responses. CONSENT STATEMENT
• I understand that my participation is voluntary and that I cannot withdraw from the research once I have completed the study.
• I am aware of what my participation will involve.
• My data are to be held confidentially and only the researcher (Donna Morris) and the supervisor (Dr. Cara Laney) will have access to them.
• My data will be kept locked in a cabinet in the Forensic Psychology section at the University of Leicester for a period of at least five years after the appearance of any associated publications. Any aggregate data (e.g. spreadsheets) will be kept in electronic form for up to one year after which time they will be deleted.
• This study will take approximately four months to complete.
• The overall findings may be submitted for publication in a scientific journal, or presented at scientific conferences.
• I will be able to obtain general information about the results of this research by contacting the researcher Donna Morris (dmm24@le.ac.uk).
