IHV Child Safety Standards Survey

The Victorian Government has introduced compulsory minimum child safety standards in response to the Betrayal of Trust Report. These will apply to organisations that help protect children from all forms of abuse.  IHV will be implementing these legislated standards in January 2017. IHV is committed to making all children feel and be safe. The organisation is in the process of doing a safety review. A child is under 18 years of age.

The Child Safety Policy will try to minimise risk of the following types of abuse occurring:

Physical: intentionally causing or threatening to cause physical injury to a child

Sexual: when a person uses their authority to involve the child in sexual activity

Emotional and psychological: engaging in inappropriate behaviours such as rejecting, ignoring, humiliating, isolating, threatening or verbally abusing a child

Neglect: failing to meet the child's basic needs ( e.g.food, water, medical attention, supervision)

Racial, cultural religious: conduct that demonstrates contempt, ridicule, or hatred or negativity towards a child because of their race, culture or religion

(Taken from page 11 Commission for Children and Young People- A guide for Creating a Child-Safe Organisation)

There are Seven Strands which must be implemented by sporting clubs:

Standard 1: Strategies to embed an organisational culture of child safety, including through effective leadership arrangements

Standard 2: A child safe policy or statement of commitment to child safety

Standard 3: A code of conduct that establishes clear expectations for appropriate behaviour with children

Standard 4: Screening, supervision, training and other human resources practices that reduce the risk of child abuse by new and existing personnel

Standard 5: Processes for responding to and reporting suspected child abuse

Standard 6: Strategies to identify and reduce or remove risk of child abuse

Standard 7: Strategies to promote the participation and empowerment of children

This survey is to address Standard 7.   Could you please complete this honestly and carefully by December 13th 2016?

IHV must also include the following principles as part of each standard:

Promoting the safety of Aboriginal children and their families

Promoting the cultural safety of culturally and/or linguistically diverse children and their families

Promoting the safety of children with a disability and their families

This survey is for your child ( under 18) to complete. Your child's input is very important. This will only take 5-10 minutes. Some players, especially younger ones, will need help from their parents.  Please help us and only provide accurate information. The results of this survey will remain confidential and be used to inform the development of the Child Safety Policy, Code of Conduct, and Complaints Management process. There are opportunities within the questionnaire if you want to have further conversations about your concerns.  Thank you!
